ROUND 5 PENNANT REPORT
Sunday 23rd. Feb. was another perfect day for golf with NHGC hosting
SANDY CREEK .
The DIV 3 side were unlucky to have 3 of their seasoned performers
unavailable on the day and I take this opportunity to wish
Whale a quick recovery from his health issue
and offer the condolences of the entire club , to Ron Baskett,
whose sister and brother passed away, seperately , last week .
We are very sorry for your loss Ron.
____________________________________________________________
The DIV 2 side were strengthened by the return of Adrian Ward to the
no.1 position and the removal of the under-performing John Ginever .

Meanwhile , Alex Kostich was feeling , just
a ‘ tad ‘ tired after 30 holes of golf the day before and there was a
moment when I considered resting him ,
but that old ‘ fickle finger of fate ‘ delivered more good luck for him ,
when his direct opponent failed to arrive and he had a walk
over 5/4 forfeit win ...bought any lottery tickets lately mate ?
So here are the details you are all craving for .
DIVISION 2 :-
1:- Adrian Ward 1up win ... unavailable for next week and the final ;
but certainly helped to get us there with 3x wins and 1xloss to his tally;
Thanks for your valuable contribution Wardy.
2:- Andrew Edgar ‘ Haggis ‘ squared his game ...not sure of his
availability due to work roster but we hope so ; always a strong
performer for the club … Thanks for your efforts so far mate .
3:- Bill Colclasure 7/5 win ...his biggest win yet . Having a great season
with still more to come ...I’m running out of superlatives for this bloke.
4:- Alex Kostich 5/4 forfeit win ...as mentioned , the triple ‘ F ‘ factor ,
… Oh ! that’s now 4 ‘ Fs ‘ … the Fickle Finger of Fate Factor . And If
you factor in ‘ forfeit ‘ , you get the Fickle Finger of Fate Forfeit Factor
F__K !! ... Oh that’s another one … 6 now … Coincidence ? I Fink not !
Ed. Note : We apologise for this touch of insanity and return to our
story , with a new writer
5:-Ian Meredith 2/1 loss ...I have every confidence in this man
finding his game when it matters most; No need to PANIC!!!!! readers
6:- David Remphrey 4/3 win … strong finish to his game ; big win ;
currently leading in the ’ player of the year’ ,award… great contributor .
7:- Andrew ‘ A.J.‘ Clarke 1down loss; a very close match ; could have
gone either way ; I have faith in this man running into form too .
8:- Stephen Pearce 4/3 win ; 2 x wins / 1x loss so far ; A great asset
to the team ; Cemented his position for this week ; well done mate .
NORTH HAVEN 51/2 to SANDY CREEK 21/2
TWO MORE MATCHES TO WIN MEN .

DIVISION 3 :-
1:- Sam Clohessy 3/1 loss … ran off track a little this week ;
bad putting , but easily remedied by this veteran performer .
2:- Brian Mathers 2 down loss … He’s been foxing for longer odds
folks ; and it’s working ; get your money on now .
3:- Owen Jones 3/2 win ...“ and then along came long lean lankey
Jones “ ; and took down Tom Mitchell … was it ‘THE ‘
Tom Mitchell ? Who can say ? It’s Owen’s Story to tell .
4:- Bob Stevenson 5/3 win ...Ahhh !! and a ferocious wee lassie she
was ; Actually, another good win ; he had to give her 5 shots ,
so that is a very good result Bob .
5:- Rob Drew 2/1 loss ... You can beat these guys Rob; Trust yourself .
6:- Kym Dezen Squared ... A square is fair but ; trust yourself
7:- Mark Wasiewicz 5/4 loss ; Believe in your short game “ grasshopper “ .
8:- Gavin Chisholm squared game ; had to give 7 shots away to
another of their lady golfers ; so it was a fair old battle . Well done .

* NB: It’s is not an easy thing for these women to play against men and I salute
them for standing up for their club , when it seems no one else would .

SANDY CREEK 4 wins 2 halves to NORTH HAVEN 2 wins 2 halves.
Our DIV 3 side MUST win the next round to have a chance of making the final
So……...BRING IT ON !!!

NEXT ROUND IS AT SANDY CREEK on SUNDAY 1st March

Pennant Results ; Round 4
John Ginever on the 19/02/2020:

ROUND 4 ;
Was played at home to MAWSON LAKES , in perfect conditions.
This was a pivotal match for both teams , if we hope to make
a run for the final … There was some urgent re-juggling of the personnel,
which saw Bob Stevenson promoted to DIV 2 and Gavin Chisholm filling
the vacant position in DIV 3 , after receiving a last minute , desperate ,
Phone call .
As you will see below , both MEN stood the test of fire and delivered solid
wins … WELL BLOODY DONE !!
It was suggested by some No all , or Noel , that I publish the individual results , but I think my idea to publish the individual results is better.
DIVISION 2
1:-John Ginever 3/1 loss - the happiest loss I’ve ever had
2:-Ian Meredith 5/4 loss - unit is offline; normal functions will resume asap
3:-Andrew ‘A.J’ Clarke ; square - getting his mojo back at the right time
4:-Bob Stevenson 2/1 win - like Horatius defending the bridge over the Tiber,
he stood tall against the odds

6:-Alex Kostich 5/3 win - in form and taking all before him
7:-David Remphrey 1 up win - back in the winners circle ,
with a smile on his dial .
8:-Justin McLindin 6/5 win - quiet achiever ; great effort mate ; big win
NORTH HAVEN 51/2 to MAWSON LAKES 21/2
DIVISION 3 :-
1:-Sam Clohessy 5/4 win - out of barrier 1 , carrying top weight of -6 shots ,
wins in a canter .
2:-Rob Drew 2 up win - a dogged , fighting effort Rob , well done .
3:-Ron Baskett 3/2 win - the ‘ smiling assassin ‘ ; doesn’t look like a killer
but the evidence is mounting .

5:-Greg ‘El Presidente ‘ Birch 8/6 win - biggest win of the day ; he was home
in timefor breakfast .

NORTH HAVEN 6 to MAWSON LAKES 2
WELL DONE TO BOTH TEAMS.
The task now is to consolidate our position , with a win against Sandy Creek , who are improving and not to be taken lightly.
[ just as a footnote this week , it was mentioned that, as this is a team event,it would be great if, when you finish your game, grab a drink and if possible,go out on course and give support to your mates who are still battling on …I note that , Sam Clohessy and Owen Jones already do this ...Thanks fellas]
NEXT ROUND 23rd FEB. versus SANDY CREEK
at THE ROYAL NORTH HAVEN G.C.
8:00am tee off
SEE YOU THERE.
Thank You!!
Secretary on the 18/02/2020:

The NHGC Management Committee on behalf of all Members offers its sincerest thanks to all Members who volunteered their time, effort and great amounts of energy during the recent Bunnings Sausage Sizzle and green refurbishments.

Your work has been amazing and we are very appreciative.

For those not in the know, yesterday, Monday 7 February 2020, we held our second sausage sizzle at Bunnings in Woodville.

After a very long, slow day for both the sizzle and Bunnings in general, we managed to clear $ 575 for the day. This total, when added to amount raised by the previous sizzle, has boosted our bank balance by over $1200! Great work.

On the same day, a hardy band of Members dug in, literally, and helped Graham repair the 5th,7th, 9th greens . Essentially all the dead stuff was dug out and replaced with bent grass patches. Again, well done fellas!

Regarding the green refurbishments, those playing in the coming days will no doubt notice the new patches on said greens and are asked to take care around them as these patches will take 2-3 weeks to knit with existing grass.

Although the patches might impinge a bit whilst they're bedding in, the end result , will far outweigh any minor inconvenience.

Needless to say your patience during this time is appreciated.

If anyone has any questions re any of the above or wishes to volunteer for any future projects, please feel free to speak to any member of the Management Committee.

Sincerely,

The Management Committee

Pennant Results ; Round 3
John Ginever on the 10/02/2020:

ROUND 3 of the public course pennants was played at North Adelaide golf club in fine conditions ;
DIV 2 : Squared their match 3 1/2 each
DIV 3 : Lost 6 games to 2
Both sides now have 1x win ; 1x half ; 1x loss for the season so far … this puts both in a strong position , with the next 2 matches to be played at home … Some special mentions this week ; Bob Stevenson and Ron Baskett , grafted their way to victory for the 3s ; well done .
And in the 2s Bill Colclasure was solid as ever and salvaged a half ; Andrew Edgar rebounded from last week , as predicted , to win 2/1 ; David Remphrey was annoyed with himself for only achieving a halved game , but 2x wins and a half for the season so far is a great return mate ; keep it up ; Alex Kostich had a tough 2/1 victory and the pick of the week was Stephen Pearce , who showed ' TRUE GRIT ' with a come from behind , 3/2 victory … fantastic mate .
Those of us who failed this week will be more determined for redemption on Sunday , so watch this space .
ROUND 4 :- At home to Mawson Lakes 8am tee off .

Pennant Results ; Round 2
John Ginever on the 04/02/2020:

All games were played in good spirit and fair mindedness , which is very commendable by all players …
Once again both matches were a very tight tussle …

Congratulations to the players who won their matches and to those who produced a miracle shot or 3 to halve theirs.
Big kudos to those who came back after being down early … We salute your fighting spirit
To those who lost , we still love you and know you will rebound , as you have done many times in the past …
The club is grateful to all players for dedicating their time and efforts to represent the club in such an admirable way.

Correction - The World Handicap System is going Live as of 30 January 2020.
Secretary on the 03/01/2020:

Dear Members,

My apologies for jumping the gun slightly. I was informed by Golf Australia today that the WHS is going live at the end of this month.

For those who may not be aware, Australia has as of 1 January 2020, become one of the first 11 countries to immediately implement the World Handicap System developed by the R&A and the USGA . The purpose of this new handicapping system is to provide all golfers with a consistent way of measuring playing ability, with handicaps calculated the same way wherever you might be playing in the world. The aim is for golfers from different regions to be able to play together on a fair basis.

This is the latest info from Golf Australia regarding this new system:

The WHS is a joint initiative of golf’s two international governing bodies, The R&A and the United States Golf Association. These two bodies have worked together with the world’s major handicapping authorities to develop a single handicap system for the game. Golf Australia is one of the organisations that has been closely involved.

The WHS involves less change for Australia than it does for any other country. But whilst your handicapping experience will remain largely the same, we will see a few changes in Australia.

Here are the main ones that might impact you or your friends:

A. NEW REGULATION - Bonus Reduction for Exceptional Net Score
GOLF Link will apply an automated extra reduction to your GA Handicap for any net score that is at least 7 strokes better than it .

B. NEW REGULATION - Soft Cap
In addition to the existing Hard Cap of 5 strokes, a Soft Cap is being introduced. The Soft Cap will take effect if your GA Handicap increases to 3 strokes above its best point for the previous 12 months. Once in the Soft Cap zone, your GA Handicap will only be allowed to increase by 50% of the calculated amount.

C. CHANGED REGULATION - Adjustment made to Daily Handicap if Scratch Rating is different to Par
Examples of the adjustment:

********************************

If Scratch Rating 73 & Par 70; 3 is added to the Daily Handicap calculation .

If Scratch Rating 68 & Par 70; 2 is subtracted from the Daily Handicap calculation .

*********************************

We’re making this change to create some key benefits for golfers and clubs.

Firstly, it simplifies handicapping by making 36 Stableford points the universal measure of a golfer playing to their handicap, regardless of the tees or course.

Secondly, it makes mixed-gender or multi-tee competitions simpler to run which enables clubs to provide members with a more diverse range of playing options – this will also make it easier for clubs to ensure compliance with gender equality laws .

D. CHANGED REGULATION - Transfer of 0.93 Multiplier

The 0.93 Multiplier will be transferred out of the GA Handicap calculation and into the Daily Handicap calculation. Our statisticians confirm this change will have no overall impact on the handicaps players actually play off . This is because the slight increase it will cause to GA Handicaps , will be exactly the same as the decrease it will cause to Daily Handicaps . As a result there will be no overall impact.

E. CHANGED REGULATION - Maximum GA Handicap under the WHS is 54.0 for both men and women

Note: Many clubs will operate Daily Handicap limits lower than 54 .

As a part of the transition to the WHS, your GA Handicap will be recalculated using the WHS regulations. During 30 January your new GA Handicap will then be released for your viewing on www.golf.org.au. But how much will it change by?

There are several new regulations that could impact you.
For the vast majority of golfers, the only change that will have any effect on GA Handicaps is the shift in the position of the Multiplier , which will cause an increase of about 7%.
But if you’re trying to work out what your new GA Handicap will be, you should also consider the impact of some of the other new WHS regulations .
One example is the new maximum GA Handicap limit .
Another example of something to check is whether you have any ‘exceptional scores’ amongst your most recent 20 rounds .

The WHS website has a number of videos which go to great lengths to explain this new system. I encourage all NHGC Members to visit the site HERE.
